Food for thought

It is hard to believe that the year has passed by so fast. Almost half of the year has gone by already. To each one of you: A sincere thank you for choosing Kowas Adventure Safaris for your true African safari. We know it is a long flight from your home to Namibia. However, we trust that, by the end of your safari with Kowas and you are back home again – you will have only good memories, good trophies, photos and African art (curios) to cherish. We trust that you would forget the long flight... Enjoy the planning process – it is also part of the adventure. To you, who still to come, see you soon!

MESSAGE FROM DANIE:
I want to ensure you that, although I am involved with the management of NAPHA (Namibian Professional Hunting Association), you will still receive only the best service and attention at Kowas as always before. Do not fear that my responsibilities towards you as a friend of Kowas will be neglected. Kowas is operating as a team and each team player are committed to render a professional and personal service at all times.

The reason for getting involved in NAPHA (pronounce: Nafa) and tourism in Namibia is the fact that I realize that hunting opportunities in Africa is declining rapidly. Namibia presents a wonderful, unique hunting opportunity to ensure that old fashioned traditional trophy hunting can still be experienced in the vast open landscape with a very small population. I therefore also realize that this wonderful hunting opportunity could be lost if we do not play an active role in consultation with the Namibian government and other stakeholders to explain the importance of sustainable utilization and the massive income that hunting contributes to the Namibian economy. It is for this believes that I have committed myself to play my small active part in securing the Namibian hunting industry for the current and future generation - of which Morné and Jacques Strauss is part of.

Namibia is like just like one tourist remarked once: “It’s as if God finished and you are the first person there…” It is therefore our responsibility to keep it that way.

Thank you for your loyal support and understanding.

OUTSTANDING KUDU TROPHIES
The Kudu quality at Kowas is again exceptional this year. The opportunity
of getting an excellent Kudu trophy exists for those that are prepared to work
hard for it. Two clients (Phillip Braswell and Rich Dohn) have worked extremely hard in getting their Kudu’s. They were rewarded with 55” Kudu for Phillip Braswell and a 54” Kudu for Rich Dohn. Both Kudu’s qualified for the NAPHA Gold medal.

In order to get good Kudu trophies, we have to challenge the mountains currently. Phillips’ legs were completely cut while going through the mountain thorny scrubs without him wearing long pants in order to get his magnificent trophy bull. Phillip, please put a framed picture (which we have taken of your legs) next to your Kudu trophy as remembrance... Rich, it pays to be patient: combined it with the right timing, you have a great Kudu to show. Congratulations to both of you with your outstanding Kudu bulls.

When hunting in Namibia, the following comes to mind: Namibia is a place for resourceful pioneers. Definitely not for the faint of hearted. A challenging environment waiting to be explored, an untamed wilderness that yields its secrets to the adventurous… Hunting in Namibia demands a lot, but gives a lot in return – good memories to cherish forever!

ONE DAY: ELAND + MOUNTAIN ZEBRA
Dwayne Kell has booked his second hunt with Kowas Adventure Safaris for April 2005. This is a beautiful time of the year when the vegetation is still green and grassland lush and high. Dwayne’s dream during this safari was to bag an Eland and a Mountain Zebra. He managed to bag both the game species on his wish list (Eland and Mountain Zebra) in one day - absolutely unheard of! This Eland hunt – like always – was challenging. It required of him and his PH (Fred Bezuidenhoudt) to run almost one mile before getting a shooting opportunity before the night falls. Dwayne managed to bag a wonderful 35,½ “ Eland and the most beautiful Mountain Zebra without one single mark on it’s hide.

In order to bag any good trophy, the combination of three important aspect are essential to the successful hunt: 1. The availability of wildlife. 2. The interaction between the client and PH. 3. The shooting ability of the client - which is most important. Dwayne, we thank you very much for playing your important part in the success of making your own dream come true.

TROPHIES BAGGED IN APRIL 2005:
Kowas has started in April 2005 with the 2005 trophy hunting period. Trophies which was bagged until 16 May 2005, is as follows:

COMMENT FROM A CLIENT
It is the believe of Kowas Adventure Safaris to always request the opinions of our valued guests to inform us on ways and means to improve our service at Kowas or put any recommendation forward to improve the stay and service to our clients. We want to share the response on one such an enquiry with you:

“I would say it might be more helpful if the last few days you might try to be a little less hospitable. Maybe even a touch rude. Tell the guest they can fix their own drinks, or get there own food. That way it won’t be as much as a shock when we leave the bush and find our way back to the city..”

Thank you, Phillip.
