SHORT MESSAGE:
We trust that you are having an exciting year to look forward to. Time
is flying by so fast it is almost unbelievable that the first two months
of the year is something of the past already. It is important to remember
than one should enjoy every day of your life, live your life – do
not only spend time planning it…
If you are due to visit Namibia for a hunting safari during 2007, enjoy
the planning process - it is part of the safari. To those who’s
travel plans will not go through Namibia, we will keep you updated on
what is going on at Kowas in Namibia.
We wish you all a happy life, straight shooting and successful hunting...
Danie and Ansie
CREDIT CARD FACILITIES AT KOWAS ADVENTURE SAFARIS
Many of our clients have requested us to investigate the possibility of
installing a credit card payment facility at Kowas. We are glad to confirm
that we had fruitful discussions with our bank (Nedbank). We can confirm
that credit card facilities would be available at Kowas as from April
2007. Deposits and final payments could be done this way in the near future
in order to cover costs regarding your safari with Kowas Adventure Safaris.
The Kowas team hopes that this additional service to you will assist
in making your safari and the planning thereof a bit easier in the future…!
2007 USA MARKETING CAMPAIGN:
Ansie and I had a wonderful time with you during our visit to the USA
during January 2007. It was so nice to see our old friends again and the
joy of reliving some of our experiences together again.
On the business side, we can confirm that we were satisfied with the
number of bookings we have received during this trip. Thank you all in
playing your part in convincing your friends to book a safari with us.
Please be assured that we will take good care of your friends.
To our new clients, thank you for the trust in us. We can assure you
that we will do our utmost best to ensure a safari of a lifetime. We trust
that you will also become part of the Kowas family after your safari.
A special thanks to the following people whom worked hard in planning
house functions and/or assist us in the booth in Dallas:
- Larry Eulert
- Pat and Kirby Walker
- Bill and Mary Walker
- John and Susie Sullivan
- John Burrell + Amy Hunt of SA Adventures
We would also like to give recognition to Dr Heber Simmons Jr, Lee and
Lisa Friend and Larry Kolek for your assistance in supporting us during
our trip.
Thank you all for visiting with us at our booth in Dallas. Thank you
for bringing your children and family along and introduce us to your loved
once. Thank you for taking the time to visit with us in Gainesboro, Knoxville
and also in Atlanta. You can not imagine what it means to us. We are all
dear to us – each one of you have a special place in our hearts.
2008 DALLAS SAFARI CLUB CONVENTION:
If all goes according to plan, we will once again be available in Dallas
for the Dallas Safari Club Convention, which is scheduled for 12 –
15 January 2008. During 2008, this important event will start already
on Thursday - and not only on Friday as in the past. There was a great
demand to extend this event with one day. We invite you to come and share
in the fun and excitement…
Diarize these dates long in advance…we hope to see you there!
KUDU RABIES AT KOWAS:
We had a few incidents of Kudu females contracting the rabies virus at
Kowas. As far as we can determine we have lost approximately between 20
and 30 female Kudus during the past three weeks. I strongly believe that
this outbreak was triggered due to the following two factors:
- Total over population of Kudu;
- The field fires of last year have killed a large number of bushes and
shrubs. Kudus are mainly browsers and the loss of bushes had a negative
impact on the Kudu diet.
It seems that the Kudu bulls are not affected at all. We encounter more
Kudu bulls now than ever before. We saw a herd of 31 Kudu bulls the other
day - it was the largest heard of Kudu bulls I have ever heard off.
NEW FRIENDS FROM SCANDANAVIAN COUNTRIES:
During February a number of hunters from Norway and Sweden have visited
us at Kowas as trophy hunting clients. The Kowas team would like to thank
our new friends for choosing Kowas Adventure Safaris for their safari
to Namibia. We had wonderful times together. Congratulations with your
trophies which you harvested with us. We hope that when you look at the
pictures (trophies), it will bring back good memories from Africa, Namibia.
ORYX HUNT WITH HENNING:
We had a very interesting experience with an Oryx hunt - which I would
like to share with you. Mr Knut Henning Larsen had shot an oryx at about
11:00 in the morning. A few minutes after the shot, we followed it up
and found blood. Tracking started immediately. The blood was minimal with
only one or two drops every 50 to 80 yards. We suddenly saw the wounded
oryx bedding down…just to observe how he jumped up and ran off before
another shot could be taken. We then followed the tracks up to 17:30 the
same day. We spotted the same oryx again bedding down. It once again jumped
up and ran off at an unbelievable speed… (Bear in mind that after
the first shot, no other shot has been fired onto the Oryx.) After tracking
it for another 100 – 200 yards, we suddenly and to our surprise
find the oryx lying stone dead on the ground…the oryx ran himself
to death!!!
The one shot fired by Henning was also the only shot fired . It was a
perfect shot. On investigating the shot during slaughtering, it has been
discovered that the 180 grain Norma bullet punctured both lungs, the liver
and the stomach. Can you imagine: we walked more than 5 miles before the
oryx could be found. What an amazing animal the oryx is. Oryx continue
to surprise me as being the toughest animal in Africa, without a doubt!
Henning, I do think that neither one of us will ever forget this day…
PASSPORT COPIES:
You are requested to please bring along a copy of your passport. This
is an essential document which is needed in order to have all the necessary
documents available when we deliver your trophies - according to your
request and instruction – for trophy shipment.
A copy of your passport is needed to proof that you are a foreigner (not
a Namibian citizen). Only when we as Outfitters could provide a copy of
your passport, you are then entitled to be excluded from the 15% VAT (value
added tax) upon trophy exportation.
Thank you for your understanding, attention and assistance in this regard.
TRAVEL INSURANCE:
We want to remind you to make provision for travel insurance when traveling
outside of your own country. Rather make provision for having travel insurance
and not need it, than to need it and not have it.
A link to travel insurance is available from our website www.huntinamibia.com
Do not hesitate to let us know if you need any further assistance in this
regard.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT:
The only chains that prevent us from realizing our life’s dreams
are those we ourselves forge in the fires of doubt.
